The percentage of poor people in Papua over the past six months decreased by 0.98 percentage point, from 27.53 percent in March 2019 to 26.55 percent in September 2019.
The percentage of poor people in Papua for urban areas increased by 0.27 percentage points to 4.53 percent (4.26 percent in March 2019) while the rural areas fell by 1.48 percent points to 35.36 percent (36.84 percent in March 2019).
The role of food commodities towards the Poverty Line is far greater than the role of non-food commodities, both urban and rural. In September 2019, the contribution of the urban Food Poverty Line to the Poverty Line was 66.69 percent, while in rural areas it was 78.80 percent.
Food commodities that have a major influence on the GK of Papua Province in urban areas are rice, filter clove cigarettes, cobs / tuna / skipjack, wet cakes, purebred eggs and purebred chicken. While commodities that have a major influence on GK in rural areas are sweet potato / rice, rice, cassava / cassava, filter clove cigarettes, broiler chicken meat, and sugar.
In the period March - September 2019, the Poverty Depth Index (P1) and the Poverty Severity Index (P2) showed a declining trend. This indicates that the average expenditure of the poor tends to approach the poverty line and inequality between poor people decreases compared to the previous period
